Come to the library April 10-16 and help us celebrate National Library Week. Activities planned include an edible books contest, display of some of our patrons’ favorite books and a month-long food drive.

First observed in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association to promote the use of all types of libraries, public, school and university. A nonprofit citizens group called the National Book Committee organized the first observance, hoping to encourage Americans to read more books.

The library’s food drive held during April as part of the annual observance benefits individuals and families in the local community. Bring food items that have a long shelf life, such as canned vegetables, soups, juice or sauces; mixes, rice, pasta, beans, peanut butter, oatmeal and cereal. No glass jars, please. Boxes for donations will be located near the Circulation desk.
