L to R: Shantel Jacobs, Sarah Edwards, and Haylee McConnell

Shantel Jacobs of Raeford, N.C., and Sarah Edwards of Newnan, G.A., were named Hunter Library’s outstanding student workers for the 2018-2019 academic year. Haylee McConnell of Lawndale, N.C., was nominated by her supervisors for WCU’s Student Worker of the Year award, a university-wide competition.  The award winner has the opportunity to compete at regional and national levels.

Jacobs, a chemistry major, plans to work as an industrial chemist or in
pharmaceuticals after graduation. Her supervisor Shirley Finegan says, “Shantel always goes above and beyond in all she does. She has taken on many book repairs and helped Ruby with a massive relabeling project in our reference collection. Shantel’s serene nature just amazes me and she will be missed greatly after graduating this May.”

Edwards, also a chemistry major, plans to work as a lab technician after graduation.  Her supervisor Dana Wood says, “Sarah is motivated, responsible, and trustworthy. Her training flexibility allows her to work in Acquisitions, Serials, and with government documents. Sarah is irreplaceable and I am going to be very sad to see her leave us in December 2019.”

McConnell, an engineering technology major, plans to pursue a full-time position as a manufacturing engineer.  Her supervisor Shirley Finegan says “Haylee is persistent and has an amazing demeanor while assisting patrons at the circulation desk. She pays great attention to detail when working on library projects and will be greatly missed after May graduation.”
