As part of our ongoing effort to meet the study and research needs of our students, Hunter Library has added three new technology-based services.
During spring 2016, all the group study rooms were fitted with KAPP whiteboards from SMART Technologies. These boards function as conventional whiteboards, but have the capability to communicate with your smartphone, tablet, or other Bluetooth device to capture written content for archiving, sharing, or printing. The SMART Boards can also be used for collaboration using a free, downloadable app that allows remote users to see what is being drawn on the board in real time.
The library recently purchased a KIC overhead scanner, which allows users to reproduce content from print books and journals. Scans can be emailed, saved to a Google Docs account, downloaded to a USB drive, or transferred to a smartphone. The device has a book cradle, which makes it easier to copy selections from bound volumes without the distortion of content caused by the curve of the binding. The scanner automatically compensates for this, producing an easy to read, quality reproduction.
Finally, a large format plotter printer is available to reproduce images from the library’s digital collections, maps, and other content. Materials may be printed by the library staff for reasonable fees. This service helps students who have a need for reproducing large format materials for presentations or displays.
