Library open 24/5 last two weeks of fall semester

Western Carolina University students who need a quiet place to study for final exams will find Hunter Library open on a 24-hour weekday schedule starting at noon Sunday, December 3.

The library will be open continuously from then until 10 p.m. Friday, December 8. Library hours for Saturday, December 9, will be 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. The library will re-open at 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 10, and remain open until 6 p.m. on Friday, December 15.

“Free coffee will be available every night starting around midnight while the library is operating on the 24-hour schedule,” said Elizabeth Marcus, undergraduate experience librarian. “We are starting a new Bring Your Own Mug (BYOM) campaign to promote sustainability in the library.”

“Between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., patrons will have access to the 1st floor and the Technology Commons,” she added. “Four group study spaces will be available for student collaboration and the library’s electronic classroom, HL 186, will serve as a silent study space.  Should a student need a book, staff will be happy to retrieve items on request.”

WCU Parking and Transportation Services will extend the Cat-Tran shuttle service from Hunter Library beyond its regular 2:30 a.m. end time to 7:30 a.m. while the library is on its 24-hour schedule.

Final exams will be Saturday, December 9, through Friday, December 15.

Thank you for your interest in our study room reservation service. Unfortunately, the reservation system is having technical issues and booking availability for Friday, December 8, and Sunday, December 10, is down. The problem has been reported to the company and we are waiting for a reply. Meanwhile, rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis on those days. We are sorry for the inconvenience and will notify you via WCU email when the system has been repaired.
