Hunter Library is celebrating National Library Week with its annual edible book contest, as well as recognition of Take Action For Libraries Day, on April 12.
First observed 60 years ago in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association to promote the use of all types of libraries, public, school, and university. A nonprofit citizens group called the National Book Committee organized the first observance, hoping to encourage Americans to read more books.
The library’s much anticipated edible book contest beings at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 12. Participants are asked to drop their entries off in the library lobby at this time. The library visitors will be able to vote for their favorite creations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in-person, as well as via Facebook and Instagram. Winners will be announced at 2:15 p.m. and prizes distributed. Winner of the Best Overall category will receive a $25 gift card.
